This service was originally set up in 2005 within the Mendip District Council area following the reorganisation of the NHS Patient Transport Service. The service provides transport for individuals to outpatient departments at hospitals and other medical appointments.

Registration is free, print our PDF form and post it to us at the address on the form or fill in the form below. If you are unable to print our form, please call us and we will send one to you.

There is a charge for this service based on the overall mileage, plus a booking fee of £2.50. Additional costs may be incurred if your appointment is longer than 2 hours. If you have a Somerset bus pass, you may qualify for a discount of up to £10.

The service is operated by volunteer car drivers who offer their time free of charge, but are paid for their mileage from their door.

Please note - the service is only available where the distance to the hospital is more than 12 miles.

Individuals who possess an English National Concessionary Travel Scheme Bus Pass will qualify for a reduction in charges on hospital car journeys, provided their pickup time is after 9:30am.

Charge rates are usually 65p per mile charged from the driver’s door, to client, and then onto the hospital. Mileage is included for the driver to return home as well. If an appointment goes over 2 hours, clients are charged for two trips.

All bookings are charged a £2.50 admin fee, and the maximum pass holder discount is £10.
